Road to Bassam

Ivorian Landscape

We went to the Asini beach yesterday. It was a holiday and we busloaded ourselves and went east toward the beach. it was about 2 hours drive from Abidjan. The roadsides were particulary pictureqe with palm orchards and rubber trees all aorund. Really green. There were some inlets from the Atlantic. There were some yopung boys on the bridges selling live crabs caught from the lagoon. The beach was moslt deserted. the beaach houses were empty mostly. We bathed at the Atlantic.

We have passed 12 days in between. i am doing some bit of running to keep fit. the Sebrok hotel complex is on a hillock. There are no plain stretches to have a straight run. So i do a bit orf run walk run thing. At the age of 40, I can't do any better than this. The weather is around 30 degree celcius but since the humidity is low, one don't suffer much. there is an occasional rain but the water quickly passes away.

Reached Abidjan

We started from Dhaka on 10th June 2007. It was on a heavy downpour day all day. The airport formalities were done on a breeze! There were as many as 265 people on board aircraft, a Thai Oriental craft. There crew were a little less professional than the European types. We halted at Djibouti, a deserted country just west of Yemen. Then we started another 6 hour journey toward Yamoussoukro, the political capital of Cote d'Ivoire. The town is a sleepy town with wide roads and serene atmosphere. Lots of trees and flora and fauna abound. It looked a bit like Dhaka baridhara to me for some time. Except for the crocodiles which were basking on the ramp in the moat surrounding the presidential palace. In Yamoussoukro, there a big cathedral, I heard it's second largest after the Vatican.
The Jet lag really caught me in. I was feeling very tired and shaken with slight fever, toothache and the lag.
